The new Primary Mathematics Curriculum: Implications for 1st year mathematics teachers at second level
In this webinar, Lorraine draws on research and shares lessons from the literature underpinning the Primary Mathematics Curriculum on effective ways to support, develop, and sustain students’ mathematical learning as they progress through first year in post-primary school. In doing so, she addresses one of the key principles of the Primary Curriculum Framework, Transitions and Continuity, as it pertains to mathematics education. She navigates the curriculum and toolkit, highlighting aspects that are relevant for post-primary teachers. Filled with practical guidance and ideas throughout, Lorraine showcases how engagement with rich tasks, and utilising formative assessment, provide learners with authentic mathematical experiences, thereby helping to ensure curriculum continuity.
